About Us

About Chris Shorey Lettings Ltd

We are an independant Agency that is proud to be members of ARLA. This membership is one of the most important points that customers and clients should be looking for when choosing a company that you want to be able to trust from the very beginning. We were also the very first agent to become accredited with the University of Plymouth, whilst ensuring that certain standards are met which include health and safety in the private rented sector of Plymouth

Established in 1981 by Managing Director; Christopher Shorey from his home, the company has now grown to the point where today we have two modern offices and a selection of staff that each have their own unique roles in a company that prides itself on its reputation as being leaders in the rental business from students to bespoke upmarket residential property in Plymouth.

Managing Director Christopher Shorey and Director Jacqui Courtier believe strongly in investing in the future. “Students are our Future” ''The next Generation” “Our aim is to promote happy healthy lifestyle's, that ultimately create precious memories” whilst supporting the ongoing education of every single student that use our services. Top grades are even more important these days, given the current economic climate.

To prove this commitment Shorey’s invest heavily to sponsor UPSU’s top ten BUCS team along with the award winning  "Society of the Year 2011" MEDSOC and Marjon College. We are proud to have the opportunity to be able to have the company name associated with so many students who enjoy the sporting life, who also study and work hard to reach their goals, we want to have a helping hand in making sure all students achieve, whilst thoroughly enjoying studying in Plymouth.

We have a team of qualified contractors who are self employed. They agree to work with us, using our sophisticated on line communications and repairs system, they have all been checked and carry their own professional indemnity Insurance. The contractors have been with us for many years where they understand that both privacy for the tenant whilst obtaining access is very much an individual requirement. The contractors, like us, adhere to the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement ensuring that where ever possible 24 hours notice is required (emergencies not included) they promise to keep their prices competitive, so that our client the landlord and occasionally our customers can benefit from this arrangement.

Please find below  a little 'talkie bit' just so that when you walk into our offices you will have a sense of knowing who and what we are all about.

Introduction to the people that are Shorey’s

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Christopher Shorey (Marla)

I am proud to confess that I have a fantastic group of people who help make sure that Shoreys' reputation continues to remain among the best in the business. I tirelessly work to present an all inclusive package to enhance and encourage our students to stay with us stress free of bills. Daily dealings with utility firms are a challenge to say the least.

I personally enjoy keeping fit and regularly participate in motor cycle racing and skiing. Amongst other things, I run but not as often as I used to! My wife runs a lot and very fast; the speed difference seems to get bigger on a regular basis.

I do strongly believe that a healthy body promotes a healthy mind, hence the reason why this company's ethos is all about healthy life style and having fun.

Director

Jacqui Courtier (Marla)

I have been working with Chris for 11 years now and have enjoyed every moment to date. We have seen many changes over the years in the private rented sector all positive such as licensing for properties that house a certain amount of individuals and all matters relating to health and safety. I do have a personal favourite though, and that is the change in law regarding tenant’s deposits, this law has made it fair for both the landlord and the tenant. Whilst there is a process to follow which does create a large amount of administration, it ensures both parties are protected and charges that are agreed are fair.

My second favourite is our membership with ARLA, this union means that we have a strict code of conduct that we must adhere to, which provides security and peace of mind which also provides continuity for our staff, clients and customers.  Chris and I strongly believe in re –investing in our customers which is done through sponsorship and where ever possible when we need casual staff will always talk you, our customers first. We have employed many students over the years to help us during peak times.

Working with a fantastic group of people who are enthusiastic makes my role as a Director much more enjoyable. One of my many responsibilities is to ensure that continue to meet our targets, uphold our excellent reputation as managing agents, and ensure the team are kept up to date with important changes regarding legislation, I also make sure that staff benefit from ongoing training whilst dealing with any problems that may arise.

Personally I have been in the property business for around 20 years plus, which has provided me with a wealth of experience. I am able to provide knowledgeable advice on how to renovate/refurbish/convert property efficiently. This allows me to specialise in the private rented sector offering new and existing landlord’s best advice on how to make sure you get the best out of your investment.

Our online communication and repairs system collects a detailed record of each and every tenancy, allowing us to account for each job raised. When I am not working my life revolves around my gorgeous children, husband and my horse Fizz. I love working with everyone at Shoreys, there are two very important people missing from this and that is Peter and Jean Shorey (Chris’ Mum and Dad) who also work in the accounts department. They make sure that we all behave ourselves!

When I am not working I like to keep fit and am a keen football fan and this year I'm entering the Plymouth Half Marathon for the second time. Look out for me in the office! My latest news is that I am going to be a Daddy in October this year. I am very excited so if I am starting to look a little tired, it may be because I have been changing nappies in the middle of the night!

That  or my head is buried in invoices and rents whilst singing  out loud at the top of my voice in a  world of my own. To date I have been using various sophisticated systems which assists me in my role as rent Liasion officer.

Property Manager

Sam Price

Hello I joined Shoreys in December 2010 as a casual member and ended up in the accounts department for a bit and now a property manager. I am looking forward to building up my experience in what turns out to be a very busy office.

I will be one of three that will be driving you around looking at the property we have available and dealing with any issues that may come up.

Whilst studying at Plymouth University I lived in two of Shorey’s managed properties and later moved to a residential property, so I really do know and understand both sides of the coin. I think the best Aspect of Shorey’s is our company vehicles, we can show you all the best houses without dragging you in the rain.

When I am not in the office I will be in one of two places; the sea or the pub or maybe playing COD ,ok make that three places, my house has been inundated with Pets; I am now the proud owner of four snakes, two bearded dragons a cat and a load of fish- not entirely on purpose!!
